Vladimir Novak was born in 1947 in Louny (Czech Republic), but later moved to Prague. He studied at the Academy of Figurative Arts. His work, like that of all the anti-régime artists, was considered heretic for a long time. He worked as an illustrator and graphic designer in order to support himself and started exhibiting his works in 1972 in England, Hungary, Poland, France, the US, Denmark and Italy. Today he is considered one of the most important classic Czech painters.
